I had a profound awareness of my mortality and the fragility of my survivorship. However, there is not a survivor on the planet or off, who doesn't understand the difference between just being alive, and surviving. I hope you will read Ann Patchett's book, truth and beauty. It will give you more insight into Grealy. Being disfigured is not easy to overcome, I know.
