Just found this through the link on the recent Booker of Bookers post. Terrific interview, well done Sinéad! I am an uncloseted adorer of Ishiguro's books, even the lesser-loved like The Unconsoled and When We Were Orphans. I remember reading at the time of publication of Never Let Me Go that he had interrupted another book he was working on to write it, and for that reason I hoped he would be able to return to the earlier one and let us have it sooner than his usual five-year gestation period. Doesn't look like it though...

Dear readers, dear bloggers,

please note: Ishiguro won the Booker Prize for "The Remains of the Day" in 1989, four years before the Merchant/Ivory adaption came in the cinemas.

The film is about emotional repression, although the book deals with self-denial, which is at one of each media the more apropriate way.

It's very cruel in fact to be the translator of some distinguished writer and feel unable to contact him/ her.
I'm the Arabic traslator of two of Kazuo's novels (The Unconsoled) and (When We Were Orphans) now I'm about to start work on the Never Let Me Go and I really want to be in contact with him. At least I want to send him a copy or two of the Arabic Edition of his novels. Is there any help.
