The Return of Kate Bush

Oh happy day. According to the lovely Pete from EMI, a new Kate Bush double album is on the way. Entitled ‘Aerial’ it will be released on November 7th and is preceeded by a single, ‘King of the Mountain’, on October 24th. She is notoriously guarded about her private life so there’s no official site but there is a glut of extremely devoted fans and one of the most comprehensive ones, Kate Bush News is put together by an Irish chap called Sen Twomey.

Only a couple of weeks ago, I pulled out my copy of The Kick Inside. So good, so out there, so not like anyone else that it’s no surprise she has influenced all kinds of musicians. Goldfrapp (who plays at The Electric Picnic this weekend) owes a massive debt to Kate. Also, a couple of years back, I interviewed Andy Turner from electronic duo Plaid. At the end of the interview, almost as an afterthought, I asked him who he’d most like to collaborate with in an ideal world and Ms. Bush was his number one choice. She has also worked with The Trio Bulgarka, who sang on one of my favourite albums of all time, Les Mystere Des Voix Bulgares and like it or hate, The Futureheads recent cover of The Hounds of Love probably won her a new audience previously unaware of her existence.

A few months ago I heard that she was rumoured to be living in Ireland, possibly in Clare near The Burren. It wouldn’t be her first link to Ireland - her mother is Irish - and the title track on her Sensual World album was inspired by reading James Joyce’s ‘Ulysses’.

Really looking forward to ‘Aerial’. In the meantime, I’ll have to make do with rediscovering The Hounds of Love, Lionheart and The Kick Inside.

Chuffed to hear that. Any chance she’ll tour on the back of this new album?

  2. Sinéad Says:

Dave, Kate Bush has only toured once - and it was back in the 1970s!

So, I wouldn’t hold my breath, sadly.
