Village - Right on Fitt, wrong on football
Someone passed on the current issue of Village to me this morning and I spotted something which looks like a glaring omission (well, to me and anyone who likes football that is). On page 44 of the magazine, at the end of the Sports section, there is a digest/table of sporting events for the month of September entitled ‘World of Sport’. Everything from the Berlin Marathon to World Superbikes in Italian are included. If there’s one sporting event that you’d expect to be listed (or to merit a feature in the issue, but that’s another matter) it’s the fact that Ireland play France in a World Cup Qualifying match next Wednesday, September 7th. Was it mentioned? Was it feck.
So are the World Triathlon Championships in Japan of more interest to readers of an Irish magazine than the national football team playing next week? I know Richard Delevan mentions that Vincent Browne gets it right on Gerry Fitt’s death but the sub-editor or sports editor should be pulled up on this.

As far as I knew, Village doesn’t have any subs.
I don’t read it anymore, haven’t done in months. Too bloody expensive for what’s in it. Lower the price to €1.99 and I might, just might, be tempted back.
