John Peel Day
It’s hard to believe it’s one year on since the sudden death of John Peel. There’s still a huge gap in the schedule due to his loss, despite the BBC attempting to fill it with not one, but three other DJs. Various bands in Dublin over the years were lucky enough to get the chance to record Peel sessions at his invitation and some of those bands are running a commemorative bash tonight. Some of them have reformed specially for the night. Here are some details I got from one of the bands. It should be a great night for a worthy Amnesty.
“The very first John Peel Day will take place on Thursday October 13th. The day will be a celebration of John’s life. As we all know his dedication and passion for music was immense and he launched many a band’s career. To celebrate his life and as a thanks to him for years of listening pleasure, a Dublin event is been held.

I can’t believe it is a year already.
Yes there is still a big hole in the BBC schedules; Peely will never be replaced and I think his memory will live on longer than some of the music he championed.
I hope the event at The Hub goes well.
