Dunphy’s outburst on RTE last night
Did anyone watch RTE’s Champions League coverage last night? In my doped-up teeth haze I wasn’t in the humour for watching Liverpool (I’d had enough teeth pulled for one day) so I missed Dunphy’s outburst. My brother tells me that Newstalk presenter responded to a remark in an article by “some journalist” (anyone know who?) who called keane a “thug”. He replied by allegedly saying - live on air - “Who is he anyway? His left his wife for some young one”. He then proceeded to lash Bill O’Herlihy, John Giles and Liam Brady after the latter disagreed with Dunphy’s view of Keane’s “brutal” treatment and the fact the Alex Ferguson has “lost the plot”. (I don’t always agree with Dunphy but I’m 100% behind him on this remark).
The Indo also carry what appears to be an abridged version of the story reporting that Dunphy described former Ireland player Niall Quinn as “an idiot” and advised viewers that if they wanted an accurate picture of what Quinn was like that they should go and see the play ‘I, Keano’. There’s nothing on RTE today about the incident.
The situation culiminated in Dunphy removing his mic but not leaving immediately, but he was gone by the time things returned to studio for the half time chat.

I think he was referring to Rod Liddle, Sinéad.. and this article in the Sunday Times in particular

I thought it was great. He called Quinn a ‘creep’ as well.

I got sent a link to a clip of it on In Fact, Ah. Only problem was by the time I got to it they had taken the clip down because of bandwidth issues
So I didn’t see it either.
