Michel Houellebecq, Blog meet-up, Jarhead, Crack Criminals, The Golden Globes…

cillianMulitiple deadlines this week so I haven’t had a chance to blog at all. I’ve got a lot of TV/Radio stuff on the moment but I hope to be back tomorrow, but I wanted to mention a a couple of things in the interim:

Cillian Murphy has been nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in Neil Jordan’s Breakfast on Pluto. The film is dark, very enjoyable, if a tad overlong, but Murphy’s performance as Kitten is outstanding.

How does an 18 year old crack addict who commits crimes of burglary, aggravated burglary, imprisonment, property theft, sexual assault, car theft and assault causing serious harm against a total of 13 victims in one night only get nine years in jail?

French Enfant terrible (or anti-Islamic misogynist depending on your view) and author of Atomised and Platform, Michel Houellebecq will be interviewed on Rattlebag next Monday on RTE Radio 1 at 2.45pm.

More welcome commentary on the women in blogging debate from Most Sincerely Folks, Dealga, Janine, Where’s Me Country? (who is back blogging again) and United Irelander’s Top 10 Top 10 Bloggeresses.

Just saw Sam Mendes Gulf-War set Jarhead and it’s one of the films you must go and see in January when you’re broke and off booze for a month. Highly recommendend with great performances from Jake Gyllenhaal, Peter Sarsgaard and Jamie Foxx.

Calling all self-employed, unemployed, home-makers, bloggers, friends of bloggers, freelancers - That Girl is rounding up all the folk like me who don’t get to go to a Christmas party.

Will someone please tell Malcolm Glazer to get rid of Alex Ferguson? Not only was getting rid of Roy Keane one of his worst managerial decisions ever, he deserves to go after the dreadful Benfica debacle last week which saw United dumped from the Champions League. Here’s to seeing Keane back on the pitch (albeit in Spain for Real Madrid) very soon.

Finally - has anyone noticed the eerie reddish light over Dublin at the moment? Are we due a bout of snow?

Yes, I see the light too. It is pinkish purprle here.

I agree with you about Ferguson, but Madrid will benefit from these mistakes, do not worry.
