Beautiful New Born Children - Hey People!
Beautiful New Born Children
Hey People! **
Beautiful New Born Children have discovered one of music’s holy grails . how to sound insanely energetic. All you do is co-opt members who play in other bands and get them to play instruments they don’t usually play. The result is an amphetamine velocity debut that zooms past in about 23 minutes, with most of the songs falling shy of two minutes. From the moment the buzzsaw catchiness of Do The Do crashes in, there’s no escape until the five-minute mono-chord fuzzfest Up and Down and Round and Round ends things. Despite checking the obvious boxes of The Stooges and early Fall, BNBC will end up earning comparisons to label mates Arctic Monkeys, minus their infectiousness. With so many bands engaged in retro revision, it’s hard to extract anything new from what Beautiful New Born Children do, but they’re not alone. Singer Michael Beckett has given us far more interesting stuff including his laptop project Kpt.Michi.Gan and his guitar tweaks for Schneider TM. The album’s originality comes from Beckett’s lyrics which pivot from comic to vengeful to quoting Nirvana’s ‘Heart-shaped Box’ verbatim. Hey People! is edgy, frantic but definitely missing something.

Hi Sinead. Was that you on Rattlebag today on RTE radio? If so it sounded a very good contribution. Well done.

It was indeed, thanks John, I wish we’d had a bit more time. I’m up to my eyes but I’m going to try and write a review of the play.
Hope all is well with you.
