It’s official - today is the saddest day…

As if scientists aren’t busy enough with Bird Flu epidemics and breeding green pigs, they have also concluded findings that reveal today to be the saddest day of the year.

That’s right, forget disembarking from bed on the wrong side, murderous PMT, mild irratation, lack of sunlight, or cartoon rainclouds over your head: today your bad mood has been validated by science. A health psychologist at Cardiff University has come up with a formula that calculates the worst day of the year - January 23rd. According to an article in the today’s Telegraph, Dr. Cliff Arnall has based his estimation on “the poorest weather, debts owed for seasonal spending, the time since Christmas, the period of time before you abandon New Year’s resolutions, the dates when motivation levels seems to be at their lowest and the timing for the need for action to escape the blues.”

So take deep, tranquil breaths, ingest lots of chocolate, wallow in bed, watch something funny (not Rumour Has it or Fun With Dick and Jane I might add) and batten down the hatches until tomorrow.

Me? I’m staying chipper by recalling my favourite image of the weekend - George Galloway in an ill-fitting leotard robot-dancing to Kraftwerk’s Trans Europe Express.

    Sinéad

When I saw a report on Arnall’s estimate for the saddest day of the year, he popped up on on the morning TV news programmes, I though it sounded familiar.. and it is.

Same story, last year - not just another day

I’m thinking someone at the newsdesk thought there not much happening out there.. I know we’ll run Arnall’s piece again.

I did like the Giles Coren response last year though, “I didn’t have to read on to know that this research had been carried out at Cardiff University. It wasn’t going to be Harvard, was it?”

As for George.. he just keeps digging that hole deeper for himself.. he’ll be out on Wednesday btw.

Wow, that’s cheeky, and lazy on the part of two major UK papers.
I think George will stay - Denis will be out methinks…

Certainly lazy and cheeky, I think the BBC did a live interview with him too.

As for George.. if it was a normal eviction, possibly.. but two of the three are going in that vote. Did you see George’s leotard?!!

  4. peteb Says:

Doh! Of course you did. My bad.

I didn’t know two were going - I still reckon he has a chance to cling on though, he’s wily and I think the public have a love/hate relationship with him.

And Pete, I think you should see someone about your leotard fixation. :)

Oh, it’s not a problem really, Sinéad.. as long as no-one gets hold of the photos *ahem*

So I guess it’s all uphill from here. Like your new look by the way.
