Damien’s blog debate idea

Damien has come up with the excellent idea of having bloggers meet up to debate topical issues in person. He suggests topics like Gay Marriage, Feminism, Iraq and Bush, Google in China and Open Source Vs Microsoft. Sounds like we might have to get Winds and Colm to debate the Women & current affairs debate.

As Damien has suggested post-debate socialising, perhaps the winner could buy their opponent drinks in the bar afterwards?

Not a bad idea. Many of us may not be good public debaters though. We hide and write!

BTW speaking of debates……I’m starting a blog debate on Comedy - what people find funny, not funny etc….see my John of Dublin link or http://earthanduniverse.blogspot.com

    Would love everyone’s views.

I think this is an excellent idea - requires real spontaneity and ability to argue. I think we get it too soft behind the computer where we have hours to respond (or can choose never to respond even). I’m in!! And the loser buys the drinks is a super idea!

Hmmm…I can see how this would appeal to some, but it’s not real my cup of cocoa. I’m just not a big fan of debating to be honest, as it seems to me to take the enjoyable art of robust discussion out of the pub (where it finds a natural home) and into the competitive arena.

I love arguing/chatting/ranting etc., I’m just not sure I like the idea of ‘winners’ and ‘losers’ entering into it.

Not on your nelly would I debate this in person!
