WordPress themes and a little help needed

EDIT 12.35pm - Kind of like this one (it’s called Rin) but when I go in to the ‘About’ page, there’s nowhere to edit the text from what I can see. The blue dot one I also like but don’t know.

Apparently the skin on this blog looks very like another blog (something that never occured to me) and has caused some confusion. So I’m attempting in my own technically challenged way to change the skin so expect some teething problems while I get it sorted out. There might be a few different appearances while I find something I like, so consider it the blogging equivalent of trying on lots of outfits in a changing room. Have patience, male readers…

EDIT: Ok, here are the problems - any suggestions how to fix them?
- All the pages like music, books, Other sites, etc have been shoved on the blogroll
- My Planet of the Blogs, Irish Blogs, Technorati and Blog Pulse banners have disappeared
- Only the last six months of archives are showing
- The buttons at the top don’t link anywhere.

What pages did you change. was it just the wordpress theme or did you change the stylesheet. or did you change the code.

Im guessing the My planet banners etc changed as they were saved in the other template

I’m not very good at these things, so I Just uploaded a new set of skin files and changed the active theme in WP, didn’t touch the stylesheet (are you mad! You have no idea of my techie failings!). I think the POTB etc are saved elsewhere.

Hi Sinéad, I love the new look.

Right, I use Wordpress myself so I’ve had all of the same kinds of head-scratchers.

    1. If you go to the admin section and click on Links you will see that each link has a category assigned to it. I’m guessing these all say Blogroll. you need to set up new link categories (music, books, etc and reassign them).

    2. Your banners will have to be put into the new template. You’ll find the html under Presentation/Theme Editor. Copy the html for the banners and paste them where you want them (sidebar or wherever). A word to the wise here from painful experience. Before you do anything to edit that html save the original in notepad or something so if it all goes wrong and you delete it you’ll have a back up.

    3. I don’t know why the archive is doing that. Might be a html thing that is unique to the template.

    4. You’ve got to go into the html again and link those buttons at the top yourself to where you want them to go.

I know when I started out I had hardly any clue of html. I’ve picked up a few things from totally messing up my own blog while trying to figure it all out. If you need anymore help just let me know and I’ll try and lend a hand…or just stand beside you and scratch my head.

    Claire, thanks for that -
The categories are still the same and not all in blogroll so I’m not sure what that’s about.
    Argghh, I hate this stuff.
