I’d rather see The Guillemots…
If like me, your tickets for the surprise film on the last day of the Dublin Film Festival have fallen through, you could do a lot worse than head along to Whelan’s to see UK band The Guillemots tomorrow night.
Johnnie Craig in this week’s Ticket reckons they could be this year’s Arcade Fire and calls them “cosmopolitan, cool, quirky and devastatingly good”. I’d have to agree and am loving their mini-album From the Cliffs.
Come to think of it, maybe the ticket fiasco is a blessing in disguise as last year’s surprise film The Jacket was terrible, even if it starred the lovely Adrien Brody.

Did you attend the Guillemots gig, Sinead? I thought they were superb, a multi-talented band, while Fyfe has to be one of the most charismatic frontmen I’ve seen for a long time. Great stuff.

Saw the Guillemots in a pub in Cork on Saturday. Enjoyed the gig but it was pretty short. The ballads are a bit wussy as well. Only about 30 people paid them any heed, which was a shame - though not unexpected…

For meandering reasons I won’t bore you with, I didn’t make the gig, but as I mentioned, I’m loving the mini-album.
Dealga, I get really fed up with that crowd apathy stuff. It’s not even about little known bands playing gigs to raise their profile. I’ve gone to many a sold out gig only to be stuck beside some loudmouth who insists on yapping all the way through.
