Brokeback lawsuit

Via Salon’s occasionally salacious The Fix, is a story about Randy Quaid’s intention to sue the producers of Brokeback Mountain for $10 million. Quaid was told by Ang Lee at a 2004 audition for his part in the film: “We can’t pay anything. We have very little money. Everyone is making a sacrifice to make this film.”

TMZ has the original story and a pdf copy of the lawsuit.

Good luck finding any cash, Randy. These suits or at least the failure to pony up on gross points etc is a regular Hollywood occurance. I have no doubt that creative accounting will demonstrate that Brokeback, despite being a box office smash, lost its producers shedloads of money.

Of course, Randy will also find it difficult to show that Ang was lying when he said that. He wasn’t to know it would make out like a bandit. I guess it comes down to what the terms of Randy’s contract were in the absence of a big paycheck upfront. If there was no agreement on profit sharing (and as above, good luck finding any profit), I’d say a judge will tell him he took a risk like everyone else and it’s his own tough he didn’t make a better deal.

Cheers auds, the section used to be called ID, now it’s TTV. It’s good fun because it’s totally live and they’re a really nice bunch. I always have a laugh with Aidan.

It’s good thing those make-up are on hand to make me look presentable…
