They like short shorts - Sunday films at the Sugar Club

sundayI meant to mention this before but was reminded by bumping into Orla recently, who runs Sunday Ghetto. It’s a monthly cineclub to showcase the work of Irish and international short filmmakers. Held on the second Sunday of every month in the Sugar Club, Leeson Street, it will run for the rest of 2006.

On the night, 8-10 films are shown and at the end of the night the audience get to vote on their favourite film of the evening. At the end of the year the 12 monthly winners will be screened and one film will receive the Sunday Ghetto best film award. After the screenings, DJs from Maximum Joy spin a few tunes from 10-12, all for the scant sum of €5.

The next one takes place this Sunday, May14th, and on the programme are multi-award winning Irish short films, work from Spike Jonze and films from the US, UK and Denmark. It’s an excellent idea and a fiver well spent. Anyone interested in submitting work (films under 30 minutes) can contact Orla Russell-Conway at Sundayghetto@gmail.com. They also have more details on their myspace page.

Sounds like a great night. Reminds me of one of the few things I miss about living in Dublin - the easy access to the arts world and exposure to up and coming talents.
