Friday Miscellany (Music): Steve Fanagan, Radiohead, The Raconteurs’ version of ‘Floating’
It’s Friday and there’s lots of stuff worth mentioning, so a series of random, pithy posts (not dissimilar to this one) are to follow. This one’s mostly about music seeing as I’m so very excited about Daft Punk tonight. (No support from Kraftwerk or LCD Soundsystem sadly).
*Radiohead at Marley Park last night were damn fine; even better than I expected. I still managed to enjoy the gig after one pint of Satan’s wee (Budweiser) tore up my stomach and I was feeling awful for the whole night. Anyway, enough of my booze poisoning - in many ways Radiohead are a straightforward indie guitar band but there’s an air of experimentation outside of this and it’s heartening to see a band who make the kind of music - and in the way they make it - play to such a huge crowd. Beck was good, but I wish he’d change his setlist a bit more. That said, the puppets were great, particularly the pre-encore video about being in Dublin “where Guinness grows”.
*Further to news that The Raconteurs covered Jape’s ‘Floating’ at the Olympia on Monday, you can now download or listen to a version of the song recorded in Newcastle via Trust Me I’m A Thief. Thanks Niall.
* Mish was lucky enough to get one of the lovely hand-made felt editions of Steve Fanagan’s new album Wagtail (see pic borrowed form Mish). I only made it in to Road Records yesterday and Dave informed me they were all gone, but can be bought elsewhere. In the meantime, supplementary purchases of a Tortoise boxset and Susumu Yokota’s new album were made.
* Someone asked me in the comments section here where the DJ Shadow interview could be find. Trot on over to last week’s Ticket in the Irish Times.
*Not only do we have Sufjan Stevens, The Pipettes, Hot Chip and Kelley Stoltz to look forward to, Cansei De Ser Sexy are coming to Dublin and play Whelan’s on Monday November 6th. Amen sister.

Hey if you leave Daft Punk promptly at 10:30 you should be able to make it along to the other parisienne art punkers 10LEC6 in Kennedys. They go on stage at 11:30 so that we can acommodate some of their mates who might be along.
ya dig!

I just found out that MSTRKRFT played Rogue last night! did anyone go see that?
mind you, I wouldn’t have gone, since I was too busy getting married

I thought Beck was probably more enjoyable than Radiohead though I liked Radiohead a lot. I prefer dancing to Beck than the sometimes sombre atmosphere. I thought their setlist could have been a bit better put together. But I enjoyed it so there ya go. Considering going up to Marley tonight and seeing if there’s any spares..

sorry - marlay and I’m obviously talking about radioheads setlist. D’you reckon there’ll be tickets going?

Really? I thought Beck was good, but just good.
I didn’t think tonight was sold out so I’d try it. There were people selling tickets last night too, so it’s worth a try.

how was daft punk? did you manage to catch digitalism’s support set at all? I love that track they have on the funky kitsune maison 2 compilation, and am wondering if it’s a lead worth pursuing!
