The John Kelly Ensemble

Crank up the wireless, commandeer the office radio or listen online: three months after the Mystery Train was razed from the Radio 1 schedule, John Kelly is finally back on radio. His new show, The JK Ensemble kicks off on Lyric FM today. There are no real clues as to what he’ll be playing between 2.30 and 4.30pm Monday to Friday, but the site blurb promises “Bach to Eno, from Miles to Morricone”.

Not sure if they’ll be archiving the shows, but the live stream is available here or get tuning details here:

Edit: I got my dates all mixed up and didn’t realise the new RTE Arts show starts tonight on Radio 1 at 11.03pm. Conveniently enough, it’s called The Eleventh Hour

Also, John Kelly’s show will be archived online and he’ll be posting daily playlists.

His first song was a cover of I Will Survive. Ironic or what?

  2. Sinead Says:

I think that was The Puppini Sisters, Jill.
Good God, he’s playing Will Oldham now. Why would anyone listen to Derek Mooney when you can hear Bonnie Prince Billy on daytime radio?

  3. Seamus Ryan Says:

Looking forward to tuning into John’s show. Cant understand why it was axed from radio 1. Still there is no accounting for bad decisions!!

This is the best ever. John really does ‘what it says on the tin’. He gives a truly eclectic mix of perfectly chosen pieces. I enjoy and learn at the same time.

Barry/John - everyone’s entitled to an opinion and you must really have some spleen to vent given that this is such an old post (found via googling probably) and that fact that you’re the same person. It’s so easy to be critical when you’re using pseudonyms, made-up email addresses and making your point under aliases.

    Thanks for stopping by.
