David Karsten Daniels - ‘Jesus and the Devil’

Listening to this guy’s album all week and really liking it. Not a spectacular video by any yardstick, but a lazy, lovely track. Reminds me of Will Oldham…

His fourth album, Sharp Teeth, is released on January 26th on Fat Cat, a label that’s also home to folk legend Vashti Bunyan, whose much-lauded 2005 Lookaftering album has just been released on vinyl. No doubt sales won’t be hurt by the fact that one of her old tracks, ‘Just Another Diamond Day’, is currently being used on a T-mobile TV ad. Bunyan will also take part in the ‘0 Degrees Of Separation’ UK tour, which kicks off tonight and features live sets and collaborations alongside Vetiver, Juana Molina and Adem. If I lived in the UK, I’d definitely be heading along to this. More details on dates/venues here:

“Just Another Diamond Day” is one of my favourite albums ever, although I’m afraid to admit that Bunyan’s increased exposure recently is making me revert to my teenage music snob self - I’m all, “I don’t want everyone knowing about my musical treasure!” But really I’m glad that late ’60s/early ’70s British folk (the music on which I was reared - my parents sang an Incredible String Band song at their wedding) is becoming more popular. The more people listening to Steeleye Span, the better! My current retro-folk favourite is Trees’ 1970 The Garden of Jane Delawney album, which I rediscovered in my parents’ house over Christmas and which is absolutely brilliant.

I am not familiar with Vashti’s album but adore “Just another day” fantastic song.. I so am glad the advert guys chose the song, T-Mobile still use it now.

Rene, I don’t know if you saw this post from earlier this week, but Vashti Bunyan is guesting on the new Vetiver album.
