New LCD Soundsystem album & ‘Get Innocuous’
This week, I’ve been listening to the new LCD Soundsystem album Sound of Silver non-stop and have to take my hat off to James Murphy - it’s fantastic. The opening track ‘Get Innocuous’ is one of the insanely catchiest things you’re ever likely to hear. Starting off with the same beat as ‘Losing My Edge’, steady layers of rhythm start to build, including one that sounds exactly like that riff from Kraftwerk’s ‘We Are The Robots’. The vocals are very Brian Eno-era David Bowie and later a girl chips in with a robotic mantra: “You can’t normalise, don’t it make you feel alive?”. It relies on stomping repetition - there’s even a guitar bit near the end that reminds me of that bit in the ‘Thriller’ video when MJ morphs into a Zombie and dances with all those newly-risen-from-the-dead types.
As dance tracks go, it’s perfect.
The Hype Machine has various streams here:

Indeed it is. I think that after all the ‘Losing My Edge’ and ‘Daft Punk are Playing at My House’, people thought Murphy had the potential to be an oh-so-ironic one trick pony, but this proves otherwise. I love ‘All My Friends’ too.

Very much enjoyed the time I spent reading and looking around your site…as a poet, an avid reader, and hard to please, I found it a most rewarding look. Thank you…
