Another 70s man… Pop Levi
Seeing as we were talking about 1970s men yesterday, a post about another chap, Pop Levi, seems timely seeing as he’s playing at Dublin’s Crawdaddy tonight. Above is the video for ‘Blue Honey’, his first single and though he may be a noughties man in a Russell Brand kind of way, he sounds like a reincarnated Marc Bolan. The ex-Ladytron and Super Numeri member has just realeased a fine album, The Return to Form Black Magic Party on Counter Records, a Ninja Tune offshoot, created especially for him. It’s full of dirty basslines, weird detours and manges to flit from 70-soaked glam rock to futuristic pop. Come to think of it, most of it wouldn’t be out of place on the Life on Mars soundtrack…
So if you’re not doing romantic dinner stuff for Valentine’s Day, head along to this. Doors are at 8pm and be sure to go early to see support act Twin Kranes. Tickets cost €12/€14.

I love that song! You’re not by any chance bringing them to Dublin are you?

What a fantastic gig it was too - he’s a star.

Johnnie, alas I didn’t make it, but I’d say he’s great live.
Was that yourself I heard on ‘Kiosk’ last weekend? Only caught a wee bit and heard an authorative Scottish-accented chap talking movies.

It was me, yes! Authorative? Well, thank you… it was certainly very good fun. Glad you heard a bit.
