2007 Irish Blog Awards winners

blogawardsI suspect that I’m probably the only attending blogger in the country without a herculean hangover and possibly the only one out of bed yet. Last night’s 2007 Irish Blog Awards were top fun and a wonderful night all round. Rick did suitably slick job of presenting, Damien Mulley was holding it all together and after lots of mooching about and meeting old and new bloggers, the awards themselves kicked off. My biggest hope for the night was that I’d be able to stay awake (a friend suggested that I should make a sign in case I dozed off that said: “Wake me if I win”). So I’m chuffed to say I was still wide-eyed and alert when they announced I’d won Best Arts & Culture blog again, sponsored by the good folk at Poetry Ireland, it really meant a lot. The trophies are very fancy glass affairs with each category engraved on it, and each nominee received a bottle of Bubble Brothers Champagne, with a cool customised cartoon from Gaping Void.

Particulary delighted to see awards for the very deserving Red Mum, Niall (my favourite Irish music blog), Kirstie and Aisling from Beaut.ie, Twenty (who was there and is a thoroughly nice chap) and Bernie, who, in a very selfless and apt gesture passed on his award for ‘Best Contribution to the Blogosphere to Damien. It was especially nice to meet the very lovely, brave Roos from One Breast Less, Mr. Omaniblog and many others in person.

Kudos to Suzy, who live blogged the results from the back of the room.

I had to scuttle out of there at an obscenely early hour, but I’m sure the merriment and messing went on until the wee hours. Look forward to the embarrassing stories and dodgy photos on flicker.

So a big, big thank you to everyone who voted for me, who trundles past here occasionally and who comments - it’s that interaction and debate that makes me even want to do this.

    Hello there,
Meant to try and get around to saying hello to more people, but the music was very lound, so the Fustar/tuppenceworth/midnight court axix had to hide upstairs. Glad I got a chance to say hello to you before you won, and were carried away on lucrative job offers. Congrats.

  17. fústar Says:

Twas very nice to meet you again last night, Sinéad (albeit briefly). That’s the trouble with these things. Too many good people, not enough hours in the night to chat at length to anyone.

Anyhoo, congrats on the 2-in-a-row. It was a very tough category this year I thought (though not as tough as that of the poor ol’ photo-bloggers) but you are a most deserving winner.

I’m going for an altogether different record myself. 5 nominations (this year and last), no gongs. Well, my hero IS Jimmy White after all…;)

  18. Dan Sullivan Says:

    Congrats!
