Feist at Tripod

Some points about last night:
* Feist was fantastic and not terribly feisty (sorry) - the bulk of the set was quite slow but it was captivating stuff.
* Her vocals were so strong. Bell clear, undulating, unique. She sounded exactly like she does on the record, with a chunk of reverb thrown on.
* She’s a great guitarist. Myself and Edel Coffey were trying to figure out what her guitar was but couldn’t read the name. It looks like a Gibson 335, but wasn’t. Was it a Guild? Anyone know?
* ‘Sea Lion Woman’ was glorious, one of the highlights of the night. Hand-clapping in songs is so sweet.
* Tripod is a great venue (I was upstairs on the balcony) even if it was hotter than Beelzebub’s bedroom.
* ‘1, 2 , 3, 4′ sounded even better than I expected. Great, great tune.
* It’s a long time since I’ve seen such a reverential audience at a gig.
* Not many people can get away with wearing a sequinned arm tube thingy.
* Great to meet Mrs. Nialler, Aoife who hosts Anna Livia’s Indie Hour on Monday nights and blogs over here.
* The gig ended with a nice cover of a track off her boyfriend Kevin Drew’s Spirit If…
* Her band were brilliant, particularly the Stevie Wonder-esque dude on the piano at the end.
* If anyone has any pics, please let me know and I’ll put one up. I cleverly left my camera at home.
Update: I’ve nicked Nialler’s nice blurry photo, he has some video of the gig here.

I told you the internet would tell us all today. Apparently it’s a 1965 Guild Starfire. Ahhh. I went out of time on the handclapping for Sealion. *SO* embarrassing.

It was great, wasn’t it? I loved all the surprisingly-in-tune audience singalong bits. And I agree that Tripod is a great venue - well, it is if you’re in the balcony, anyway, I’ve only been to two gigs there and was up in the balcony both times. I am feeling a bit delicate today, though - why did I forget what a bad idea it is to stay out even vaguely late on a school night?

Hee hee Mrs Nialler. You’ve outed us as a blogging couple Sinead! Lovely to meet you too - I thought Feist was great as well, didn’t think her band were on fire though, but they were nice and mellow I suppose. She surprised me with her excellent guitar playing, wasn’t expecting her to kick ass so much.
I want to grow a fringe and get a sparkly armband now

Great gig, really enjoyed it. Should have got the upstairs tickets though, the noise from the bar at a couple of points was a little annoying, though I’d a great view from the right of the sound engineer’s desk.
And she herself was great, really chirpy (according to my sister). Took some really bad photos, they’d be all cool and arty if you could actually make out anything in them at all. I’d upload them if they were anything other than splodgy purple blobs. How funny was it though when she introduced the Baird brothers as being Irish, and was corrected by them as being Scottish, especially after the whole Gaelic/Celtic debate (”No, it’s Irish! EYERISHHH!!!”)!
Great sense of humour though, and loved the way she acted surprised at the crowd reaction to the first couple of bars of My Moon My Man - ‘How do you guys know this song?!’

Oh, and hey Edel and Aoife, long time no chat!

Bah, pity the photo was rubbish! Best one I have.
Great great gig. Didn’t know what to expect really but it was better than what i was hoping for.
It is lovely to talk to you last night, no head-talking off took place!

When I read tripod is a great venue, I nearly shouted ‘WHAT’, and then I read you were on the balcony. I was watching ye lot green with envy. I hated the venue, too packed, far too packed. It was oppressive and it was hard to completely enjoy the music.
And as Liam says the talking at the bar was ridiculous.
I am ashamed to admit we somehow managed to miss 1 2 3 4! I dont know how because we only ran out once for a ciggie or was that 2 3 4 times! Se
I also got two pics, it was too dark for me and I was too far away. And then close to the end I was in the other bar…

Yep,
’tis indeed a 65 Guild Starfire and yes, she really can play it, can’t she!
I really liked the cover of Fucked Up Kid, but I was kinda holding out for her doing Lover’s Spit which would have been amazing. Very good gig though, but I’m getting a little sick of negotiating the overcrowded downstairs part of Tripod, but I’ll have to grin and bear it for another thousand gigs there before Xmas.
I have a few photos on my flickr if ya click on my name.
