2007 Dublin Theatre Festival

The 2007 Dublin Theatre Festival kicked off last night, and I went to see bobrauschenbergamerica, a frenetic, kitsch examination of 20th century American life through the eyes of collagist and Abstract Expressionist, Robert Rauschenbaurg. Will post a review in a bit.

Highlights this year include James Cromwell in Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey into Night, performed by Druid and directed by Garry Hynes, Alan Bennett’s The History Boys, Roddy Doyle and Bisi Adigun’s updating of The Playboy of the Western World, Marina Carr’s Woman and Scarecrow at The Abbey, SITI’s (who also performed bobrauschenbergamerica) production of Radio America and Pan Pan’s theatrical production of Lars Von Trier’s The Idiots.

The festival runs until Sunday October 14th at various venues in Dublin.

More details and full programme on the Dublin Theatre Festival site.

Anyone planning to check it out?

    Hi Morgan,
Wow, I hadn’t heard about the David Lynch thing at all, I must get on the case. Was only having a discussion with himself the other night about Twin Peaks (I loved it, he hated it).

What are you going to see in the festival? Any recommendations I should go and see?

You were my last hope! the internet has failed me. Spent my entire lunch hour trying to find out info on it.

The festival is always pot luck. Generally the people who come back raving from them, are those that went to strange hungarian things with sous titles!

The idiots should be fun, Gavin Quinn is a great director. He did the ‘One, healing with theatre’ thing last year, 100 actors to 100 audience! Alone with your actor in a cublicle. Odd and amazing.

I’m going to the long days journey (four hours, bring a cushion!), the idiots, is this about sex, the grand inquisitor and some Beckett shorts. Fingers crossed!

Well I’m always a bit sceptical of plays that update classics. They can make a right pig’s ear of it, but I’m mildly curious about the Roddy Doyle Playboy thing.

Laurie Anderson is on, isn’t she? Might go along and see what she’s at.

I’ll be going to see Playboy. Looking forward to hearing Pegeen Mike calling her father “a muppet”.

    Morgan,

There’s a little about David Lynch’s thingy in the Irish Times’ “The Ticket” supplement on Friday. Not much mind, with no details on how to get tickets, only to say that he will be talking about his films and his latest book “Catching the Big Fish”, and that proceeds go to the David Lynch Foundation.

    How about contacting Trinity?
