Old hip hop and Biz Markie

After listening to and loving the new Cadence Weapon album (the best thing to happen to hip hop in a long time), I poked around my old vinyl and found lots of stomping stuff I’d forgotten about. I LOVED The Biz Never Sleeps, and most people will know the above classic, ‘Just a Friend’, and not least because David Kitt sampled it. The video is probably dated, definitely a bit sexist and certainly quite bizarre, but the tune is lovable rogue of a classic.

So I’m going to knock together a mix, and if I can figure out how to upload it, I will. Expect Mantronix, Kurtis Blow, some Boogie Down Productions, Pharcyde, T-Love, Slum Village, 45 King, Gang Starr and whatever else I find when I move some other boxes out of the way.

Thanks for confirming that D.Kitt sampled Biz Markie, I had a drunken dispute aeons ago with my brother and my boyfriend where I played them both pieces of music and they insisted I was mad and there was no sample. I’d completely forgotten about the argument so never looked into it properly. Yay, vindication!
I’m definitely going to check out the Cadence Weapon album and I’m looking forward to hearing that mix.
