R.I.P Paul Raven
Only last week I was talking about Ministry, one of the last bands that Paul Raven played with. Raven, best known for his time spent playing with Killing Joke (including on their best single, ‘Love Like Blood’), died at the weekend aged 46, from a suspected heart attack. Raven was also a member variously of Godflesh, Pigface, Prong and a band I saw him play with in London in the early 90s, Murder, Inc. Does anyone remember their great song of the same name with a chorus of “We’ve come to fuck you over”? (MTV used to substitute ‘fuck’ for ‘take’, when they played the video, and I can only find a woefully bad quality recording from 120 Minutes here). He toured with Ministry last year, had completed work on an upcoming Mob Research album and was recording with Treponem Pal in Switzerland when he died.
R.I.P. Mr. Raven.

Wow, that’s so young. What a shame. “We’ve Come to Fuck You Over” is a great title.

Has Jeff Martin hacked into your blog?

Medbh, it’s a great song. Still sounds good, but not from that dodgy quality youtube clip.
C, you’re hilarious - and totally spot on!

The Murder Inc album is tremendous. It just grinds and bangs and drips sleaze, if you know what I mean. Sad loss…..

Manuel, were you a big fan? I loved that album, but not a lot of people even knew about them. Anyone who liked Ministry, The Revolting Cocks, Lead into Gold, Gaye Bikers on Acid, The Young Gods or KMFDM had usually heard of them.

I started with Ministry then followed all the side projects and off shoots. Murder Inc were fantastic. But my favourite side project was probably Pailhead, the Ministry/Fugazi number. 1 EP AND IT’S A GEM. 1000Homo Dj’s too was a tremendous blast as well. Did you ever see the Young Gods live? Bloody brilliant…..

I’m seeing a whole new side to you Sinead. I didn’t know you’d been into this kind of thing. So when Jeff is ranting away about Diamond Dave or whoever, you actually understand what he’s talking about? There was one Ministry album I really liked - Psalm 69: The Way To…, but I’m sure any connoisseur would probably say it’s their Parklife, or Urban Hymns. There was a great song, I think it was called Scarecrow, but could be wrong.
I still can’t get that Irn-Bru advert out of my head, the Goths at the beach? classic! hee-hee.
Manuel - I saw Young Gods in the Mean Fiddler in Dublin, supported by The Idiots, great gig, far too much dry ice though, I nearly choked!

Manuel, I saw the Young Gods in London and somewhere in Dublin - I think it was the Rock Garden? - the singer had one of the most gravelly voices I’ve ever heard.
C, there’s a lot about me you don’t know. :)Myself and an old boyfriend used to DJ in Fibbers on a Tuesday playing alternative/industrial stuff like KMFDM, Henry Rollins, Front 242,
Psalm 69 is good, probably their most commercial album to date (’Just One Fix’ is a stomper), but The Land of Milk and Honey and In Case You Didn’t Feel Like Showing Up are definitely the two best albums they’ve made.
I was never a goth! I have photos of me with a white face, wearing a basque, a fishnet top and a skirt with a huge, trailing bustle of black net sown onto the back - and that was just my Debs.

Clearly, there’s a hell of a lot I don’t know!

So why don’t you use that debs pic for your Facebook? I dare ya!
