Congrats to all those short-listed, it’s going to be a tough battle with such an array of judges. It’ll most likely come down to Adrian Crowley, Cathy Davey and Delorentos - would love to see Adrian win it. Am also disappointed that Mumblin’ Deaf Ro didn’t make the final list.
What say all of you?

Thanks for the judges list! It’s a strong line-up this year. Davey or Crowley FTW most likely but as with previous years, it could always produce a surprise.

Not too many surprises there. Kila are a pleasant surprise for me. Mumblin’s album is my favourite of2007 so I am disappointed he is not there. Boo!

Thanks Edel and Sinead for being disappointed for me. (Edel - all my hopes were pinned on you being a judge!) Everyone has been just so nice about the album There was an Egret on the front page of the times yesterday, which i took as a good omen. There was a pair of dirty knickers on my DART seat this morning, which I took as a counter omen.

I’m staking my claim on Cathy Davey with Delorentos a close second (maybe Super Extra Bonus Party in the mix)

That Dave Geraghty album is only awful so how did that make it through to the last round? Good list all round otherwise. Agree with Edel about Kila, which proves that at least it’s not a snooty music snob list. Like the SEBP, Crowley and Davey albums, but hard to say who’d win on the night. Does the gig bit count towards the decision?

Pity that The Herring & The Brine didn’t make it. I hope Cathy Davey gets it, hers is the only album I’m really happy to see there.

Dave - as far as I know the judges are off slugging it out while the bands are on, so no. But I’m sure Sinead could clear that up.
I think Future Kings of Spain are a big miss tbh.

[…] Sinead Gleeson has a full list of the judges here.  I’m also a bit bummed that Mumblin’ Deaf Ro didn’t make the list with The Herring & The Brine. But it’s a very strong list as it is. […]

Niall Says, I think you’re right about the Choice producing a surprise, so it could go anyway.:
Edel - agreed. MDR should have been on there.
MDR, dirty knickers? Egrets? There’s a whole new song in that. Bad luck thought, I was sure you’d be on there.
TGWAOF, Cathy D has a very strong shot at it, does everyone like Delorentos?
Dave, I’m not fond of the DG album either, but that’s the way it goes.
The gig bit doesn’t count, it’s purely based on the album.
Shane, I’ve seen a lot of Cathy Davey posts on your blog, so I figured as much.
Derek, yep, that’s how it works. It’s a pity actually, as we didn’t get to see any of the acts live last year.
I’d say FKOS are very disappointed not to be on there.

I was glad to see Dave Geraghty’s album on there - it’s not perfect by any means, but it really charmed me. But yeah, Cathy Davey for the win, I reckon.

I’m still humming Cathy Davey’s song. Hope she wins it.

Very happy to see Kila there - an incredibly underrated band in my opinion.Their release from the year before with Oki was even better than Gambler’s Ballet.
