Is this the French Cathy Davey?
This week, I’ve been listening to an album called L’Autre Bout Du Monde by French singer Emily Loizeau and it puts me in mind of Cathy Davey. Loizeau has her own musical nous going on, and there’s some serious piano-playing on the album (she’s been playing since she was five), but there’s the same musicality as Davey, that hint of cabaret. It’s a lovely album, at times very classical, at others jaunty and tongue-in-cheek. It’s out on February 11th on Fargo Records (also home to Dawn Landes, whose album Fireproof is already one of my favourite records of this year). Here’s the video for the title track:

I believe Ms Loizeau once did a duet once with Andrew Bird. Made to be, really.

Ah! I’ve been raving about her for ages; glad that her record’s finally coming out in Ireland. She’s brilliant live too (she supported Duke Special in Belfast last year). I swoon in her general direction…

…and the Andrew Bird duet, ‘London Town’ is on her album. It’s lovely. Life is good.
