Irish Blog Awards last night…

blogawardsHonestly didn’t expect a hat trick for Best Arts and Culture Blog, so thank you to those who nominated and judged, it’s most appreciated. In my haste to get off the stage, I forgot to thank Poetry Ireland for their sponsorship of the category. Thank you. David is looking for written contributions to the Poetry Ireland blog (not necessarily poems or prose, but articles too), so if you’re feeling inspired, head over there and get in touch.

Before the awards, I headed along to the Ladies tea party in the Market Bar which was well attended, so kudos to Sabrina and Ina for organising that, and to Martha for the grub.

There were lots of very deserving winners last night including Niall, Shane, Gingerpixel Twenty, Beaut.ie, Kieran, Suzy, Conn, Simon Mc Garr, Rick and Fatmammycat. Great to meet people I had never met before: Medbh, Deborah, Liz Cronin, John, Feebee and John (winner of Best Newcomer), Tim, Eolai and JC. Out of the blue, I also bumped into Jo, a college friend I haven’t seen in over 10 years.

I’m taking a leaf out of Twenty’s book (metaphorically, not the one he was shamelessly plugging in his acceptance speech last night) and retiring myself from this category next year. Three in a row is brilliant, and I’m so grateful to have won, but it should be someone else’s turn now.

Ryan was taking sneaky photographs - as well as the official winner pics - all night, so expect lots of pictorial randomness on flickr. I got waylaid on my way to the Winners’ group photo so I’m not in it. And Red Mum took some pics of the Ladies Tea Party.

And finally, big thanks and respect to Damien for all his tireless work in encouraging this community. He’s a legend.

Update: Thanks also to all the people who came up to me on the night, specifically to say nice things about Musical Rooms.

  32. Roisin Says:

Well done, yours is the best and most illuminating writing on any Irish blog. Fact.

Not sure about you retiring though. Whoever wins in your category next year will know they didn’t compete against the strongest blog so the win won’t mean as much and their gong won’t be quite as shiny.

    Would you not reconsider?

  33. Sinéad Says:

Thank you all so much for stopping by to leave such lovely comments. Promise I’ll respond later when the deadlines are out of the way.

  34. Brian Says:

Congrats Sinead. Hope you spent the Sunday serenading the boys with “3 times, I’ve only won it 3 times”

    Thanks

It was lovely to get chatting to you too… Although the one thing I never got to ask you was which of the Musical Rooms was your favourite. D’oh :)
