Mixing up your music publications

This morning’s post brought a couple of packages that were sent to The Irish Times for me. One is from a US Management company and concerns a young singer/songwriter they would like to bring to my attention. Having gone to the trouble to get a journalist’s name rather than sending in a CD randomly and dispatching it across the Atlantic to the shiny, new Irish Times building on Tara Street, I spot the following entreaty in the letter.

“I have included a copy of X’s most recent album, “XXXX”. I would like you to consider it for review in Hot Press”.

Dear me. I’ll certainly give the album a listen, but I won’t be reviewing it for Hot Press.

It’s obvious. It’s because you’re not a “real” journalist that they thought you wrote for Hot Press. Hehe.

  2. Tom Says:

    Journalist. i.e.
    1. a person who practices the occupation or profession of journalism.
    2. a person who keeps a journal, diary, or other record of daily events.
Hmmm, not too much grey area here. Off to Pepperland with you, Dave. : )

  3. Sinead Says:

Dave, that would be it alright. :)

Tom, I think Dave is referring to what’s going on in the comments here:

  5. Tom Says:

    Oh I see. A squabble.
Such a lovely word to say but not to do.

  6. Tanya Says:

Oh dear! A cut and paste job too many…

  7. Leigh O'Gorman Says:

i wonder did hot press get the other package?

  8. Sinead Says:

Tom, “squabble” I like. “Fisticuffs” I love.

    Tanya, I fear so.

Leigh, possibly. Good thing the management folk aren’t based here, what with Michael Stipe on the cover of both HP and State. It’d be confusion overdrive.

maybe the state got a package destined for the ticket??? maybe the tribune got my application for a job as floor sweeper
    maybe it’s time i made the tea…
