New Vetiver album of covers and - update - gig

Ok, the above video ‘Been so Long’ isn’t on the new Vetiver* album of covers, but I’m very excited to say that Vashti Bunyan (featured in this clip) is. She sings on ‘Sleep a Million Years’, a Dia Joyce track. The album features recordings of tracks by Norman Greenbaum (he of ‘Spirit in the Sky’ fame), Biff Rose, Hawkwind, Loudon Wainwright III, Towns Van Zandt and Bobby Charles.

It’s a warm, summery album, full of 70’s nostalgia and it’s getting a lot of plays around here since it arrived yesterday.

Thing of the Past is released on May 23rd on Fatcat.

* If you’ve ever seen Devendra Banhart live, you’ve most likely seen Vetiver - they’re his touring band.

I’ve just been told that Vetiver will play Crawdaddy on Sunday June 8th.

Excellent. Are you a big fan?

  3. red Says:

Yep, both of Devendra & Vetiver. ‘Been So Long’ is my favourite track by them too.

I like it. The music is kind of Wilcoish a couple of albums back. And drones are always welcome.
