All girl bands and Ladyfest Cork
While writing an article about the many legged music and culture machine that is Ladyfest Cork, I discovered several fantastic bands were on the line-up. Some I already know and am fond of - Janey Mac, Party Weirdo, Queen Kong, You’re Only Massive - but two in particular have really grabbed me, both all female line-ups.
First up is Oh My God! (It Might Be Him) Hailing from Cork, this four piece are variously 15, 16 and 17 years old and make Phil Spector-ish better-than-the-Pipettes pop. Check out ‘Green For Go’ and ‘Sir Lurkalot’ on their myspace page. The other band are Fairview-based Tap Tap Click Click, a multi-instrumental outfit who, thanks to their use of drums, bass, guitar, keyboard, melodica, accordion, ocarina and kazoo have echoes of múm. Have a listen to the four tracks on their myspace page, particularly ‘Marie Antoinette intro’ and ‘Waltzing Belles’. Their “alternative soundscape” will close the Ladyfest Art exhibition on Sunday evening.
Also on the music bill is experimental UK cellist Bela Emerson. The full music line-up is here. But it’s not just about the music, there are workshops on belly dancing, Comedy Improv, making your own Zine, DJing, Permaculture and ‘Bloody Brilliant’ (”Menstrual mayhem, information and education presented in a fun exploration of all things period”. More details). There will also be a performance of The Vagina Monologues by a local secondary scholl.
Ladyfest Cork takes place this weekend, Friday April 25th - Sunday April 27th.

Sinead, this is coming up on my screen with the picture blocking most of the article.

Oh My God! (It Might Be Him) are great! Thanks for that. Enjoy the weekend.

Chancer, it looks fine on this computer, and the max width for photos is 500 pixels, which this is.
Cubik, I love them. They’re my new favourite discovery.
“Green for go/red for passion”.
Alas I won’t make Ladyfest as I’m going to see United thrash Chelsea this Saturday in London.

Hey Sinead, picture is screwy here too (running IE). Also, there’s a typo in the meta contenty stuff: “Both comments and trackbacks are currenlty open for this entry.” There’s also a word-order problem in your last comment: “United thrash Chelsea”
Other than that, fabulous as always.
Jim.

Ok, have tweaked it, how does it look now?
Jim, I’ve spotted that typo before, but it’s imbedded in WordPress and nothing to do with me (honest).
You don’t seriously think Chelsea will win on Saturday? You poor man. The April sun must be getting to you.

Much better.
Did you email Wordpress about it? That would drive me spare. I think Wordpress is good about fixing that kind of thing.
Nah, Utd. will win, most likely, but it hurts to write it…
Jim.

Working fine now, think the problem was that the article was also appearing behind the photo.
Those girls sound pretty good (astonishingly good really, considering their age)but aren’t quite enough to make me trek down to Cork and sit through a “fun exploration of all things period.” Will definitely keep an eye out for them though, that Green for Go song is nicely stuck in my head now.

What sloppy dress sense some girls in that top picture display. They could pick up brighter attire in a thrift shop and help groups like the SVP while they’re at it.

Thank you Sinead, Oh My God! (It Might Be Him) are a great find. I might take time of exams and head along to see them tomorrow.
