Thank you, Paul Scholes

Thank you Paul Scholes for that magnificent goal (clip here, You tube have pulled lots of the good quality ones). It may have been his only Champion’s League goal this season, but Christ did it count. No thanks to United for causing me a mild coronary for the last 10 minutes of the match, when I was convinced Messi would nip in and score in the 93rd minute. Or worse, like Liverpool last week, that one of United’s own players would stick one in their own net.

It more than made up for last Saturday’s disappointing result. What a game though. Managed to get a ticket in with the United fans at Stamford Bridge, who never stopped singing. It was short sleeve weather and at least the United goal was scored at the end I was sitting.

Roll on the final on May 21st. Chelsea would be the lesser of two evils, but I think we’ll be meeting Liverpool after tonight’s game. I’m pre-ordering my Valium online as we speak.

Fingers crossed for a red and blue night come the 21st.

  2. Joe Says:

Very very jealous of all who were there! I have no fingernails left. Was asked this morning if United could only win one now, which would I prefer, the league or cup? I’ve always maintained that the league is the best indicator of how good a team are, rather than a cup which shows how good they can be on their day.

But if Liverpool make the final I may just have to go for Cup, couldn’t bear losing to them in the final.

  3. Q Says:

I was just saying to a fellow ‘pool supporter in work, that we’ll all be taking Xanax should it be a Man U - Liverpool final.

  4. fústar Says:

If it’s a Chelsea vs Utd final then it’ll be the ultimate battle between evil…and evil! I won’t be watching. I’ll be too busy gouging my eyes out.

  5. Fred the Red Says:

THANK YOU PAUL SCHOLES WE LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Sinead Says:

David - it’s the lesser of two evils, but I couldn’t bear having to listen to the Liverpool fans I know if they beat us.

Joe - totally agree re the League/Championship. Although it’d be very special for United to win it in the 50th anniversary year of Munich.

Q - save me some. I was having a stroke by the end of the game last night.

Fustar - so are you a fan of the ‘Pool? Or as someone I know unkindly refers to them, “the bin dippers.

Fred the red, we do love him, don’t we? Rooney and Vidic will be super fit and back in the squad by then. On Saturday, the fans only got to sing the Nemanja Vidic song for the eight minutes he was on. I’ll never listen to ‘Volare’ in the same way.

    Sinéad,

I am. Since about 1979 (I even wrote a song that was sung on the Kop!)

I don’t really want a Pool/Utd final either - because there’ll almost inevitably be serious shit before and (particularly) after the match. A lot of decent “family” type fans (from both sides) would probably give it a miss - and who could blame them?

Or maybe I’m just being overly pessimistic…

  8. red Says:

    I’m speechless. Speechless.

  9. Sinead Says:

Fustar, myself and brother were just saying that there’ll be killings if it’s United V Liverpool - especially as it’s not on English turf, and in a non EU country - they’ll run amok. And the more dubious elements will probably be more tempted to travel as a result.

Red, why speechless? Are you steering clear of the meme? Sorry for the tag.

  10. David Says:

If it wasn’t Utd v Chelsea there wud have been serious trouble - seeing as Roman has bought up every ticket to the game.

    Roll on May 21.

Sinéad, thanks for that YouTube link. I don’t have a tv and I’m one of those strange people who don’t really follow football, but having played Gaelic football and hurling as a youngster, I appreciate the skill and beauty of a great goal, and this was an absolute peach.

Good thing you’re not a betting person when it comes to footie Gleeson…

This youtube link is the best ad in the world…
My mates and I were floored when we saw this…
I think it is actually the best thing I have ever seen in my entire life (it even beats staring at Alexa Chung!!!)
